New York State Assembly candidate Anthony Beckford's
statement regarding the Trump-like divisiveness of Rodneyse Bichotte
(East Flatbush, Brooklyn)
The New York City Council just recently passed a resolution to designate areas in the community as Little Haiti. This idea was proposed by Assembly member Rodneyse Bichotte and a city council member. This is very problematic and divisive. There should be no divide at all. Our community does not only consist of Haitians. It also consists of Jamaicans, Guyanese, Trinidadians, Bajans,Grenadians and many others. The community was not allowed to weigh in on this. Many Haitians themselves do not agree with the divisiveness that Rodneyse Bichotte has been showing just to form a legacy for herself. We are battling issues that affect every Caribbean culture in our community and she is busy trying to look good for votes by being divisive just like Trump is. And yes, I compared it to Trump. The City Council passed a resolution but it seems like there was no real investigation to see what is really in the declared areas. Church Avenue is Bob Marley Boulevard. Bob Marley is Jamaican. Is Rodneyse Bichotte actually trying to drown out the contributions and hardworking of the other Caribbean cultures on the community? This is what the optics look like and it seems that it is true. Rodneyse Bichotte does not truly care about the Caribbean. Her love for Haiti should be questioned as well, die to her op-ed in Kings County Politics where she stated "Haiti is in the Caribbean, but not of the Caribbean". How dare she take away the validity of Haiti's rightful place in the Caribbean. The city council needs to meet again and dismiss the resolution and pass a resolution that expands the designation of Little Caribbean to celebrate all Caribbean cultures. In the Caribbean, there is a saying that I breathing life back into which is "One People Under the Sun". We can even question Rodneyse Bichotte's support of Hillary Clinton despite the people of Haiti stating that she played a part in destroying the growth of Haiti and stealing the funds that were to be used to help rebuild Haiti. That is a Judas mindset. Rodneyse Bichotte is trying to create a new class level and classism is what this system functions on and how it divides us and oppresses all Black people along with racism. As I work on Unity, Rodneyse Bichotte continues her divisive agenda and seems to be playing off of the heartache, struggles and emotions of the Haitian community. This tactic of Rodneyse Bichotte, will make it hard for the communities of Flatbush and East Flatbush, which are the last strongholds against all out gentrification to fight against rezoning and further displacements. Rodneyese herself does not know how to stop gentrification and one of her Co-supporters of "Little Haiti" has admitted that in a news article and has stated "We want to be sure that we can leave a piece of Haitian Culture when gentrification does take over". That is not a progressive message. That is the language of building a self legacy while abandoning actual protections for the people of the community, especially the Caribbean community. Bichotte has yet to join myself and others in the call to Abolish ICE. I have called for this action to take place since it's creation in 2003. I have been personally affected by their racist predatory policies as many in the community have. Many Haitians, Jamaicans, Trinidadians, Guyanese, Grenadians and many other people within our Caribbean Community are afraid and Bichotte has not pushed to ease that fear or to fight against the threat to at is producing that fear. Bichotte keeps pushing for TPS, which only offers temporary protections. I want to make sure that every single immigrant is protected and safe. I am pushing for all TPS and DACA holders to become permanent residents. I am pushing for there to be a fast track citizenship process for all immigrants. I am pushing to make sure that our Healthcare system and Driver License programs cover not just citizens, but immigrants as well. I am pushing for Caribbean Unity in Flatbush and East Flatbush so that we can Rise Up and win this fight TN against Trump, the GOP and ICE.
Rodneyse Bichotte has proven her true intentions. Street naming is an honorable thing, but divide is disgraceful. It is the colonizing mindset. It is the conditioning that some still carry in them from the colonizers. She needs to re-educate herself on how to fight for the people and get out of the sunken place. I will continue to fight for the people of the district as she keeps trying to become a legend in her own mind. If she cared so much about the Haitian community, she would be doing the things that I've been doing for the Haitian community and the rest of the Caribbean community. Then again, a narcissist can only love themselves more than the people and Rodneyse Bichotte has not shown any actual concern for the community. I helped the community celebrate Caribbean Heritage month throughout the month of June and celebrated the first annual Caribbean Unity Day on June 30th with members of the community and with the Caribbean Unity Alliance. Rodneyse Bichotte was nowhere to be found. Homes are being torn down, gentrification is displacing our community at an alarming rate, landlords are illegally evicting tenants and Trump is separating children and deporting our family members. But instead of focusing on stopping many of these key issues, she figures that she might as well make herself look and feel good while the tears and cries of the people go unnoticed by her. ICE is kidnapping members of the community and she chooses to build a legacy for herself. Well I see the tears and I hear the cries. The demands of the people will be answered when she is voted out on November 6th and myself, Anthony Beckford am voted in. It is time that District 42, which consists of Flatbush, East Flatbush , Midwood and Ditmas Park has an elected official who truly advocates for them, no matter their cultural background. The divisive era of Bichotte or as I call it "The Bichotte Trump Era" is over. We will not allow a GOP member or any Democrat with Conservative or Self Serving agendas to have any position in our communities. #VoteThemOut

State Assembly Candidate Anthony Beckford is one of the pillars of his community. Anthony Beckford is the son of Jamaican immigrants. Being a Marine Corps Veteran, Activist, Community Advocate, Freedom Fighter in the Black Lives Matter movement and the Leader of the Brooklyn Sector of CopWatch Patrol Unit. He has the discipline, consistency, passion and grit that it will take to protect the residents within the 42nd State Assembly District, from greedy developers, Trump's bigotry, Abusive Landlords, Police Violence, Gun Violence and more. And let's not forget the solutions to rebuild back the community and to bring in the resources and opportunities that are needed. The community can be represented fully and be protected and empowered through his planned legislation proposals and his consistency in the fight for Social Justice.
Anthony Beckford started as an activist at the early age of 12 while he was a student at Winthrop Junior High School. His first challenge was the rezoning of School District 18. The rezoning would have taken away the much needed funds that the schools within his district needed. Long story short, he helped to defeat the rezoning plan. After graduating from Winthrop Junior High School, Anthony Beckford went on to Midwood High School and graduated in the top 33 percentile. He is a member of the Democratic Socialists, Green Party of Brooklyn , True Freedom Political Club, MoveOn.org, ColorsofChange.org, Flatbush Tenant Coalition, Our Revolution, Green Party Black Caucus, Citizens Action NYC racial Justice Committee, Community Board 17 Housing and Public Safety sub-committees and many more progressive organizations that are consistently defending democracy and fighting for the Rights of the people.
Anthony Beckford chose to run for State Assembly because he saw the needs of his community. He feels he can do more and provide more accountability. He knows what resources and opportunities are needed and refuses to ignorant it, the way the incumbent Rodneyse Bichotte has been for the past 4 years. Community members made it known that they have no true representation from Rodneyse Bichotte and that she is only focused on her self legacy. Anthony Beckford saw the families being separated and displaced. He saw the lack of opportunities for the youth and the lack of care for the elderly. He saw that no true affordable housing plan was in place for the people and believes that Immigration protections should be permanent, not temporary. He has seen the attacks against the working class and low income. He was able to expose Rodneyse Bichotte's donations from Real Estate Brokers and members of the Real Estate Board of New York, crooked lobbyists and special interest groups.
Anthony Beckford has selflessly stood up to protect the communities from police brutality and gun violence. He is a true leader and innovator. He continues to battle gun violence, poverty, racial disparities, gentrification, climate changes, police brutality, tenant harassment, displacements, developers, the school to prison pipeline, racism, classism, environmental violations and much, much more. Mr. Beckford has been consistent in his fight for justice. He has stands side by side with various organizations that fight for tenants’ rights, worker’s rights, women’s rights, immigration rights, lgbtq rights and more.
